Mascar chicle frecuentemente no es aconsejable ni antes, ni durante ni después de retirarte los aparatos de la ortodoncia. Según la Sociedad Española de Disfunción Craneomandibular y Dolor Orofacial (SEDCYDO), está descrito como uno de los elementos que acentúan la disfunción de la articulación temporomandibular (situada entre el hueso temporal y la mandíbula). Por el tipo de movimientos que se produce en la masticación, se debe evitar en todos los pacientes para no sobrecargar los dientes, los músculos y esta articulación.
Por tanto, intenta no abusar del chicle.
